LRQA is proud to announce a record low Lost Time Injury Rate (LTIR) over the past eight months, reflecting the effectiveness of the company’s industry-leading approach to safety.
Latest data from LRQA’s Protect Incident Reporting System reports the company’s Lost Time Incident Rate has reached an all time low of 0.04 over the eight month period.
The team credits this milestone to a strategic shift from traditional, reactive safety models toward a more proactive and holistic approach. In this evolved Health, Safety, Environment, and Security (HSES) framework, physical safety is just one of four key pillars, alongside psychological, financial and social wellbeing.
In addition to this milestone, LRQA was recently highly commended at The Safety & Health Excellence Awards for Best Health and Safety Project. The project, 'Improving safety performance by introducing the LifeSaver 'Wellbeing',' puts mental health and wellbeing at the heart of the company’s safety culture, further highlighting the company’s leadership in embedding best practice in daily operations.
LRQA has implemented a wide range of policies and programmes, including key safety controls, incident management procedures that include wellbeing incidents, safe travel policies, training initiatives, as well as support through wellbeing ambassadors, an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), and the Thrive wellbeing programme. Reinforced by data-led monitoring, the HSES team is able to track performance and drive a culture of continuous improvement.
Safety isn’t just a priority – it’s a fundamental part of who we are. And I strongly believe that the wellbeing contributes to the safety of our colleagues. Beyond our proactive policies, we also embed HSES into our values and behaviours framework and our core values – Vision, Integrity, Togetherness, Ambition and Expertise – to create an environment where people feel supported, encouraged to grow and empowered to contribute to our collective success.”
“There’s also a material significance to our HSES work. The World Health Organisation estimates that 12 billion working days are lost every year to depression and anxiety at a cost of US$ 1 trillion per year is lost the global economy, predominantly from reduced productivity. Our wellbeing programmes therefore seeks to support both employee and business resilience."
LRQA remains ahead of industry standards, having long embraced the core principles of ISO 45001 – the international standard for health and safety management – including the scheduled update which integrates wellbeing alongside physical safety; something LRQA is proud to have championed for years.
With a proactive safety culture and a comprehensive framework in place, LRQA continues to set a high standard for health, safety and wellbeing within its own operations, as well as sharing this best practice through its ISO 45001 certification and training services for its valued global clients.
